Best Ways To Maintain Your Fence

nj fence companyHere at Anello Fence we only install the highest quality fences NJ has to offer. But as with anything, severe weather and pesky animals can damage your fence. Luckily, there are some very simple tips and tricks for keeping your fence looking brand new and we’re here to share them with you…

Visually Inspect For Animals

Animals love to find ways to make your fence their new home – especially bee’s (yikes!). Every spring and summer, make sure to visually inspect your fence and make sure you do not see any holes. Even small holes in your fence could mean a big nest. You’ll want to take the necessary steps to safely rid the animals of your fence.

Check The Stain or Paint

One of the most important things you can do to keep your fence looking brand new is to stain/paint it. Staining your fence provides more protection because a stain actually goes farther into the fence, whereas paint stays only on the top layer. By staining your fence you will not have to deal with chipped paint either.

Replace Broken Pieces

Often times a fence can break due to harsh weather (especially here in New Jersey where we get some pretty big hurricanes). If your fence breaks, don’t worry. Here at Anello Fence, we have all the necessary materials to fix your broken fence. Give us a call and we’ll be over to make it look brand new again!

Remove Mold

Mold can really do a number on your fence. That’s why we recommend investing is a power washer to easily clean off any mold and debris to keep your fence looking great.

How To Care For Your Wood Fence

Congrats – you’ve installed your new wood fence and it looks great!

But now you have to make sure it is properly maintained to keep it lasting a lifetime. Fortunately for you, Anello Fence only uses the highest quality wood fencing materials there is. However, wood is still prone to damage from extreme weather conditions and animals. Use the tips below to make sure that your new wood fence stays in pristine condition.

  • Every few months make sure to inspect your fence for damages. Falling branches from high winds can fall on your fence. Even the smallest crack can open the treated wood, leading to rot.
  • Before the winter months, check your wood fence for animal nests. Birds and squirrels love to burrow their way into man-made object, this is especially true for fencing. You’ll want to have the animal safely removed from the fence and have the fence repaired.
  • Clean your fence regularly. Mold can eat away at the top, treated layer of your fence, leaving it more susceptible to weather damage. Make sure to run a power washer over your fence when necessary.

Vinyl Fence Installation NJ Fence Contractors North Jersey

Vinyl fence is fast becoming one of the most popular fencing materials on the market. It’s stronger and more durable than wood, never needs to be painted, resists graffiti, and usually comes with a lifetime warranty. If you’re looking for the last fence you’ll ever have to buy, take a peek at vinyl fencing. It might be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

Stronger and More Flexible
Maybe the most convincing reason to choose vinyl over wood is its strength and flexibility. Some manufacturers claim that fence made from vinyl is up to five times stronger and four times more flexible than comparable wood fences. This makes it ideal for just about any application, including fencing for your yard, your pool, or keeping your livestock at bay. Whatever you need fence for, vinyl does the trick.

Maintenance Free
Another big draw of vinyl fence is the fact that it’s virtually maintenance free. Because it is one color through and through it will never need to be painted, and scratches and scrapes will never be a problem. In fact, vinyl actually resists paint, making vinyl fence “graffiti resistant” since any unwanted paint jobs are easily scrubbed off. Finally, because it’s made of high quality vinyl, the only cleaning your new fence will ever need is a yearly hosing off with soap and water.

More Bang For Your Buck
For all of the above reasons, vinyl is perhaps the best deal you’ll find when it comes to fencing materials. It may have a slightly higher initial cost, but the long term savings in terms of repair, painting and other maintenance expenses means that over the course of its lifetime your vinyl fence will run about 1/3 of what other materials, such as wood, will cost you. Add to that the fact that quality vinyl fencing almost always comes with a lifetime guarantee and its clear why many people choose vinyl for their fencing needs.

It Pays to Pay A Little More
As with most products, you get what you pay for with vinyl. That being the case, it’s best to pay a little extra for higher end materials if you hope to avoid headaches down the road. Higher end vinyl fence is more sun resistant (a major source of brittling and cracking), thicker (so it will better resist cracks, dents and breakage), and will do a better job of handling extremes of hot and cold (the other big threat to vinyl products). If you go cheap with vinyl fencing you’re almost guaranteed to experience one or more of these problems in the future. If you don’t, you’re literally guaranteed that your fence will last a lifetime.

A Finishing Touch to Your Home

Vinyl fences are some of the most attractive fences available to homeowners today. They are an easy, yet cost effective way to add immediate value to the home, and accentuate the home’s natural landscape. Being the most durable, long lasting fence on the market, it’s easy to see why vinyl fences have quickly become a favorite material for homeowners across the country.

In the past, wooden fence was primarily used, and there were certain costs associated with the upkeep – painting, staining, sealing, and replacement. As an alternative to wood, vinyl fence has become a more modern style, turning into the more popular option to its counterpart. It is being used for both commercial and residential use, to add decorative layout, privacy, safety and security. Perhaps the most convincing aspect of this fencing material is that vinyl fences are literally maintenance free and come with a lifetime warranty on the product.

Vinyl fences are easy to clean, resistant to weathering, and have low maintenance requirements. It is very easy to up keep, requiring only a cleaning with soap and bubbles or a light power wash once a year. Because vinyl is generally available in a wide variety of styles and colors, it saves time and money on maintenance, and replacing rotted, warped or splintered wood every few years, like with traditional wood fences. You’ll never have to pay money for any fencing expenses ever again!

When you’re interested in purchasing vinyl fencing for your home, you’re virtually guaranteed to find a fence design that fits the budget by visiting Anello Fence, LLC.

Fixing a Leaning Fence NJ Fence Contractors

While an upright, erect fence provides security and prevents entry into a confined space, one that leans poses a safety hazard, appears unsightly and stands out in the landscape. Fences are usually made of wooden posts and wire that tend to sag or lean with time due to wood rot, excessively strong winds, excess weight or shifts in the ground. Instead installing a new fence, Anello Fence wants to help you fix the lean so it is as good as new. Follow these steps cautiously to fix your fence!

1. Insert a shovel in the ground next to a leaning post and begin to dig far enough until you can push it back upright. Dig dirt away from the side of the post where it leans and collect it in mounds next to each post.

2. Drive a 36-inch-long stake into the ground with a sledgehammer until 12 inches are above the ground. Position each stake 6 feet from each leaning post in the direction opposite the lean, parallel to the fence’s plumb position. Drive the stakes on the same side of the fence, parallel to each other.

3. Push the post upright until level. Hold a level vertically next to the post to determine whether it is erect.

4. Have someone else hold the post upright as you extend an 8-foot-long 2-by-4 diagonally from the top of the post to the lower end of the parallel stake. Wedge its lower end into the ground securely so it does not shift. Rest its lower corner against the stake.

5. Pound a nail through the lumber that penetrates the post. Do not drive the nail all the way through as you have to remove the lumber after repair. The lumber acts as a temporary brace that holds the leaning post in plumb position until it’s repaired.

6. Mix water and concrete in a wheelbarrow until it reaches a consistency almost like ice-cream. Pour it into the excavation around each leaning post. Stop pouring when the concrete mix is 2 inches from the top of the excavation. Leave the concrete to cure for up to 24 hours.

7. Inspect the concrete to determine whether it has fully cured before packing dirt into the excavation until it is flush against the surrounding soil. Tamp it down so it sets in place, then remove the 2-by-4 lumber and stakes.

Prevent Birds From Perching NJ Fencing Contractors

Sure those birds are pretty and look sweet perched on your beautiful wooden fence but they also tend to leave bird droppings that are anything but attractive. Bird droppings are also difficult to wash off of your wood fence. Fortunately, there is a very easy solution that won’t harm the birds and won’t deter from the beauty of your wooden fence.

First, you’ll need…
Fishing Line
Galvanized Screws
Drill and Small Drill Bit

1. Drill pilot holes approximately every three foot of your wood fence. Be certain the holes are smaller than your screws. By taking the time to drill pilot holes, you will prevent cracking the wood fence when you screw in the screws. These pilot holes do not need to be deep at all.

2. Insert your screws into each pilot hole. Do not screw them down flush to the fence. You need a bit of the screw to sit up so you can fasten your fishing line to it.

3. Fasten your fishing line to the first screw one on end of your wooden fence and proceed to wrap the line once or twice around the top of each exposed screw. Keep the line snug.

4. Observe the birds behavior. If they try to land on your wood fence the line is in the way and they can’t perch on fishing line. They will get frustrated and find a new place to perch. If you use transparent fishing line, nobody will be the wiser – except the birds, that is.

Don’t forget….Keep a watch on the line. If it becomes damaged or breaks off, replace it. If loose, it could be a danger to the birds and other animals or children.

Picking the Perfect Fence, Pequannock NJ

Installing a fence involves more work than digging post holes and nailing boards together. In addition to updating the appearance of your home, a good fence design can add value and security. Take some time to look at the variety of fence designs in your neighborhood. Whether you want a privacy, picket or boundary fence, there are many attractive options in a range of prices.

Consider the following list of things when choosing exactly what kind of fence you’d like:

  • Which type of fence matches your home and neighborhood? Look at fences in your neighborhood and see which styles strike you as the most attractive.
  • How close can the fence be to the property line?
  • What is your budget?
  • What is the purpose of the fence? Do you want privacy? Should it be high enough to contain a pet or a child? Is it decorative and bordering flowerbeds? Is it a security fence? Will the fence enclose a pool area?
  • Are you willing to regularly maintain a wood fence, or is metal a better option?
  • If you choose a wood fence, will it need painting or staining?
