Choosing a Pool Fence

Pool fences have revolutionized remarkably over the last few years. A lot of emphasis is now placed on regulating pool fences and promoting security in pools. Pool fences are very crucial and the role they have played in promoting safety has been quite enormous.

However, one of the biggest challenges most people face is the limited fence options in the market. There are three types of pool fences today all of which can be a perfect pick for people who are looking for effective and safe pool fences at no extra costs. Here is an overview of some of the main pool fences in the market at the moment:

Ornamental Aluminium

Ornamental aluminum is an elegant and durable fence and has become one the most popular pool fence in the US today. Aluminium fences come with powder coating which makes them very good in any weather. The best thing about aluminium is the fact that it offers a very cost-effective pool fence option. Additionally, ornamental aluminium is very effective and can give you amazing service over a long period of time. It requires low maintenance and one of its biggest shortcomings is the lack of enough privacy.

Vinyl (PVC)

Vinyl fencing is the perfect pool fence for people who are looking for maximum privacy. The fence can be easily customized to meet your needs and has a number of great advantages. To start with, vinyl fences require very little maintenance, they are very cost-effective and most importantly vinyl pool fences are readily available in the market. The biggest shortcoming observed in vinyl fences is the fact that the gate tends to sag over time. There are also limited color options as many vinyl fences are basically white albeit some manufacturers tend to add some tan into it.

Wood is also a very popular material in pool fences. Although in recent years it has been overtaken by PVC and ornamental aluminum due to their low maintenance requirements, it is still a perfect fence option for anyone. The best thing about wood fences is the fact that it can be easily customized in line with your needs.

In addition, wood is less expensive than aluminum and PVC and can be an ideal option for people looking for a low cost pool fence. The biggest challenge in wood fences is the maintenance. However, if you can understand the simple ways to keep it strong, it can really offer you some good service.

Generally, the need to fence your pool has a number of benefits and it is important to critically look at the options above and choose one that suits you best. Keep in mind that these fences come with different prices and are meant to meet different needs. With that said, make sure you understand what you are looking for.

After you find a few companies, search their sites. Do they have a lot of information regarding the services they provide and products/materials they sell? A reliable company will have all the information you will need right on their website.

Lastly, contact each company by phone and ask them a few questions to learn more about their process. Below is a list of questions you may want to consider…

  • Do you provide American made fencing materials?
  • How long do you estimate [insert your project] will take?
  • Can you provide any references?

Fence Installation: Installing a Chain Link Fence

Chain link fences are one of the easiest ways to provide a safe enclosure relatively quickly. While they are usually not meant to “spruce up” a yard, they are perfect for back yards and businesses looking for extra protection.

Installation of a chain link fence is a process similar to that of installing many other types of fences. Below is a simple outline of what we do…

First, we find  your property’s boundary lines. It’s important that we make sure, when setting the posts, that we do not encroach on your neighbors property line.

Next we measure and mark the exact location of each post with a stake (accommodating for hinges, gate posts, etc).

fence-install-chain-linkHere’s a good diagram explaining how we go about installing the fence post. It’s very important that the posts are level and set at the right height or else the entire installation will be ruined.

After the terminal posts have set, we then locate and set the line posts.

Next comes installing the fittings to the terminal posts and apply each terminal post cap.

Once the fittings and post caps are on, we can move on to putting the top rails on the fence.

Lastly, after the posts have all set, we install the chain link. This is where exact measurement in the previous steps comes into play. Even if you are just an inch off, it can distort the entire fence. That’s why our motto is, “measure twice, cut once”.

Fence Companies: What to Ask For Before Purchasing a Fence in NJ

pvc vinyl fenceChoosing the best fence company can be tough for a lot of people. There’s a lot to consider!

We noticed a lot of first time fence buyers wondering what they should ask prior making a purchase. If you’re one of those people, this blog post is just for you.

Today we’re going to go over everything you should look for when searching for the right fence companies in NJ.

“How much experience do they have?”

This is a big question that a lot of consumers forget to ask but it’s very important. Experience in the fencing industry will tell you a lot about how good the craftsmen are. If they’re only a few years old, you might want to pass. Look for companies like Anello Fence that have over 50 years experience.

“Are they licensed and insured?”

Making sure that the company you hire is license and insured is also very important. If something goes wrong and someone is injured, you want to make sure that there are no liabilities on your end. Plus, these things tell you that they are a legal, professional company operating in New Jersey.

“Are they reliable?”

In todays day and age, with sites like Yelp, it’s easy to see company reviews. However, be careful because the reviews you see can sometimes be from other companies  trying to damage the reputation of a competitor. This unfortunately has happened to us. Fortunately, you can view a selection of our client testimonials here.

“How big is their selection of fencing products?”

Often times fence companies cannot afford to carry all of the popular styles – vinyl, aluminum, chain link, etc. Make sure to ask if they carry your preferred style in stock. That way you don’t have to wait weeks (or even months) for them to have your fence shipped from the distributor. As one of NJ’s largest fence companies, we carry the largest selection in the state. This is because we have warehouses full of the highest quality fence supplies.

“Do they serve my area?”

Even though New Jersey is a small state, a lot of fence companies only serve a small portion of it. When searching for the right company, make sure you find out if they serve your area. Anello Fence proudly serves the entire state of NJ – no job is to far away for us.

There you have it, the five questions you should ask every fence company before buying from them!

Installing a Split Rail Fence

split-rail-fence-woodInstalling a split rail fence is a great way to border your property in a charming, simple way. And although it may seem like a simple process, there’s more than meets the eye. Below we detail the process we use when installing this type of fence. You’ll see that it takes more than a keen eye and a hammer… Before we begin it’s important to note a few things. When planning a fence installation, we must make sure it fully on your property and not your neighbors. We also need to check local ordinances to make sure everything is in-line with your town/city government. Lastly, we call 888-DIG-SAFE to check for underground utilities. Once we get the green light on the above, we start to plan the dig. Here’s a list of materials/products we use.

  • Post digger
  • Carpenters level
  • Shovel
  • Measure
  • End posts
  • Line posts
  • Corner posts
  • Fence rails
  • Gravel
  • Stakes
  • String

The initial planning of a fence is very important – one small mistake and the entire project would have to be redone. We start by laying out your fence first to get a good idea of where it will go. Here’s an example of how we measure to find the perfect fit for your new fence: If we’re building a 33 ft fence and your split rails are 11 ft long, you would divid the initial length by 11 to see how many “sections” you would have. Now we can start digging! Using a shovel and post hole digger, we dig a hole that’s about 10 inches in diameter. We then fill it with a little bit of gravel to drain any moisture. This is a very important step and one that isn’t followed by a lot of contractors trying to cut corners. As you probably know, water can damage wood very easily. Therefore it is important to drain away any moisture quickly and easily. By adding gravel/rocks, we can ensure that the water goes into the ground rather than pooling around the wood post and damaging it. Next we use the level to make sure the squared up. After we’re sure the post is square, we set it. It’s during this part of the project we like to check our work and make sure everything has been done perfectly. Now we move on to the final stage in this installation, adding the rails. Once the rails are added, we check our work one more time and let you inspect the entire fence to make sure it is 100% to your liking. There are a few details we left out but for the most part (such as the steps to digging the perfect post hole) that is how we install your split rail fence. For a more in-depth look at the entire process, here’s a great tutorial by the folks over at Popular Mechanics or feel free to watch the video below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHwg0GevCCQ Interested in having your fence installed by Anello Fence, LLC? Choosing The Right Pool Fence

There are many reasons one would want to have a pool fence installed – to protect a newborn child, to protect your pets, to keep animals out, or to keep neighbors out.

Whatever your reason, protecting your pool and your property is key. Not only that, you are protecting yourself from big liabilities too.

Now that you’ve made your decision to have it installed, you have to figure out what design and style is best for your property.

Pool Barrier Fences

Anello Fence works very closely with the makers of the Pool Barrier fence company. They are a well known manufacturer of pool fencing from South Florida. We decided to work with them not only because of their commitment to high quality products and customer service (like us) but because their number one priority is creating a pool barrier that protects children from drowning.

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children under the age of five. Being a father myself, I knew that other parents would want the best product on the market to protect their children.

Take a look at the video below to learn more about how we install the Pool Barrier fence…

The Pool Barrier fence is made from a highly durable fabric known as TEXTILENE® mesh. This is a special vinyl coated mesh fence that is specially made to deter mold and mildew from growing on it. This is extremely important for pool fencing. Often times a fence contractor will install a fence without properly taking into account the harsh conditions that it will go under – mold/mildew from the water and chemicals from the chlorine. You want to choose a fence that is specifically designed to handle well for a long time under these conditions.

What our customers love most about this fence is that it is completely removable. Yes, it’s durable and can protect children/pets from going in but at the same time, it can be disassembled in moments.

Lastly, and most importantly, we offer a full warranty on all Pool Barrier fences that we install (under normal use) for as long as the original property owner owns it.

Split Rail Fencing: What it is & How We Install it

split-rail-fence-installationOver the years, we’ve noticed a few trends in home/property improvement, one of which is split rail fencing. This is a type of wood fencing that was very popular in the olden times. In fact, it could be one of the oldest types of fences. You see, during the Civil War, soldiers needed a portable yet durable way to protect themselves and create barriers. Often times there just wasn’t enough room to carry bulky fences with them. They eventually turned to their surroundings to help protect them by cutting down and splitting trees. This is how the name “split rail” came to be and you can see one of the most popular designs above.

Eventually, as homes became more modern and new fence material was created (such as vinyl/PVC), split rail fence installation dwindled. However, as homeowners are looking to spruce up their property on a budget, they are turning to older, more classic looks. Thus, the resurgence of the split rail fence.

As we mentioned before, split rail fencing is cheaper to install than some of the other fencing products out there but it requires detailed planning. When installing this type of fence, we have to account for various different elements – slope, angle, etc. Our motto is measure twice, install once. With this type of fence installation, you want to make sure that you go with a fence contractor that has the skills and experience necessary.

Here at Anello Fence, we pride ourselves on being one of the oldest fencing companies in NJ. Our craftsmen are masters at designing and installing fences. If you’re interested in having us install your next fence, you can schedule your complimentary estimate by clicking here.
